Algebra 1
Algebra 1 introduces students to a variety of functions incuding linear, quadratic and exponential functions. Students are taught to identify the difference between linear and non-linear functions by calculating the rate of change algebraically and graphically. Slope/rate of change is introduced in a variety of ways. System of equations and inequalities will be taught in multiple ways with a variety of word problems which makes sense. Identifying and understanding the characterstics of quadratic functions is a key topic in Algebra 1. And last but not least, factoring polynomials is taught very thoroughly as it is the most essential skill in the coming years for high school students.
Skills that the students will master:
- Identifying and evaluating functions
- Linear functions and modeling linear functions using linear regression
- System of equations and Inequalities
- Polynomial Arithmetic, Binmoial multiplication
- Factoring trinomials, special products
- Quadratic functions and transformations, finding zeroes
- Solving quadratic equations using four methods
- Solve real world word problems in all the topics
